Looking Up to Anita DeFrantz
I have recently been doing research on Anita DeFrantz, a current board member on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). DeFrantz was the first female on the IOC and was appointed vice president of the executive committee. Currently, DeFrantz still works with the IOC and is director of numerous committees as well as president of the Tubman Truth Corporation. DeFrantz broke numerous barriers both in her Olympic rowing career and her professional career. Although, she does not solely work on public relations or event management it is an enormous part of her work with the IOC. I think it is inspiring that she has broken barriers in her work and is making a difference, that is why Anita DeFrantz is someone I look up to in my ‘field.’
Throughout DeFrantz’s career she has done a plethora of non-profit event planning and committee work. This is something that I am interested in pursuing in the future. DeFrantz was Vice President for the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games Los Angeles, I think that is an incredible job and it is motivating to see her progress. DeFrantz started out by going to Olympics, then back to undergraduate school, and then competed in the Olympics before realizing combining her passion for sports and career goals. DeFrantz perseverance, progress and accomplishments are motivating; she inspires me to reach a little higher in my career goals. She was able to break down barriers and help plan the Olympic games.
