How Digital Marketing Effects My Profession

I think that digital marketing will play more of a role in my career than I will expect it to. It is a growing and important aspect of public relations and event management. I am a public relations major with a minor in event management. So far I have been doing event coordination internships and can picture event management as a career in the future.

I think that digital marketing will be extremely important in the industry. Through my internships I have seen how companies use digital marketing as a way to develop their brand, promote events, connect with clients, market to potential clients, and connect with vendors. Today event coordinators have professional branded websites and social media presences. Social media is way for event professionals to showcase their work and events and connect with customers. At my last internship they used Instagram as a portfolio. Everything that was posted was consistent with their brand and highlighted their event work. When customers are looking online for event planners they look into the planners past events. The online world is a great way to showcase that. Blogging is also a big part of the online event world. Event planners share ideas and stories that are targeted at customers and other people in the industry. Being able to master digital blogging will be a very useful tool in the future.

Another way I think that digital marketing comes into play in social media is in regards to customer service. Clients often use social media to ask quick questions and write reviews. Knowing timely and effective communication skills for social media will be useful as well.

The digital marketing world will continue to change just as the digital world continually does. Digital marketing is already becoming a major component of the event industry. I imagine that in the future digital marketing will be essential to my career field and I am glad that I am getting a head start on it now.
